It is important to look after your Sexual Health.
Screening for infection allows you to take control of your health, receive treatment if necessary and receive advice about controlling future risks.
It is advisable to have a regular sexual health ‘MOT’ particularly if you have a new partner, whether or not you have any symptoms of infection.
If you feel you have been at risk you need to leave 72 hours before being tested so that we have the highest chance of accurate screening.
Many infections such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea can be treated easily with antibiotics.
Herpes can be medically managed to decrease symptoms and reduce the chance of transmission, as can HIV.
We can give you your test results within 72 hours and very often within 24 hours.
Same day HIV testing can be offered each day. We prefer you to attend before 11am but can sometimes accommodate later appointments and still give you a result later that day. In any case you can receive your results by the following evening.
All tests include a detailed consultation with one of our clinicians and a follow-up consultation to deliver your results by phone or in person as appropriate
Essential Elements of the Male and Female Screening:
• Chlamydia
• Syphilis
• Gonorrhoea
These tests are appropriate if you have no symptoms but are simply worried that you may have been at risk. There needs to have been 72 hours since the last time of risk. You must not pass urine for 2 hours prior to appt.
Additional Testing
These can be done in addition to the above screenings
• HIV Test Duo-HIV 1+2 Antibody, p24 Antigen
• Hepatitis B Test
• Herpes Virus Antigen from a lesion, or Herpes Antibody blood test as appropriate
• Candida (Thrush)
• Bacterial Vaginosis
We can test for high risk strains of HPV at the same time as a smear test if requested.
We are able to offer HIV tests on their own. This will include a 15 minute pre-test counselling session
